YOUR ROLE

Role Summary

The Managing Director, Talent Acquisition sets the long-term strategy and oversees the day-to-day operation and financial performance of talent acquisition functions at Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air. As a people leader, this role creates and implements a progressive talent acquisition strategy with full executive buy-in and participation to ensure that Alaska and Horizon recruit the strongest talent to power growth and strategy implementation.

Scope & Complexity

This role requires building and scaling talent acquisition teams across multiple locations and areas of specialty, as well as enhancing internal processes and systems, leveraging market insight to drive employer branding initiatives and partnering closely with senior leadership to plan innovative organizational growth strategies (workforce planning). This senior leadership role will provide thought leadership, creativity and excitement to establish excellent recruiting processes, on-boarding programs and a phenomenal candidate experience.

Key Duties

  • Establish strategic goals to create a vision and direction for a team of directors and managers leading the talent acquisition departments.

  • Set long-term strategy and drive implementation focused on attracting top-tier, diverse talent and building a high-quality talent pipeline for Talent Acquisition.

  • Partner with People Team leaders on overarching People strategy and corporate business goals.

  • Lead organizational planning; create goals and business plans for the department; defines organizational priorities; and leads the development and implementation of performance metrics.

  • Seek and apply research, best practices, and innovative approaches to advance the company's recruiting strategy.

  • Utilize and leverage data and analytics, drives the narrative of our recruiting status and influence change.

  • Hire, retain and continually develop diverse, high caliber talent acquisition professionals who are able to contribute positively to the organization.

  • Lead the team to achieve or exceed department goals by leveraging resources and by driving a continual focus on best practices and a deeper understanding of the business.

  • Monitor direction and growth of the business; develops a pipeline of talent for key skills to meet current and future needs for departments.

  • Forge strong relationships with divisional leaders and People Team members by listening, understanding needs, defining shared objectives, proactively consulting, and collaborating to meet organization goals.

  • Apply appropriate metrics, processes, technologies, decision-making and recording-keeping to processes to ensure appropriate use of resources, performance against goals and effectiveness of strategy.

  • Develop relationships and maintain partnerships with professional associations, alumni groups and other public organizations to identify and source qualified candidates.

  • Continuously innovate Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air employer branding, sourcing, social media, campus recruiting and employee referral programs.

  • Partner with Marketing to ensure that the inspiring mission, vision and culture is showcased on all external facing social media communications and careers page.

  • Develop people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on fostering strategic and systems thinking, development of talent, and succession planning across teams and disciplines.

  • Shape culture of the team through action, presence, and reinforcement of behaviors.

Job-Specific Skills, Experience & Education

Required

  • 10 years of progressive relevant experience within recruiting, human resources, project or program management or other relevant area.

  • 5 years of people leadership experience in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

  • A Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance or related area, or willingness to obtain a Bachelor's degree within 6 years of start date.

  • Must possess a passion for developing a high performing diverse workforce, fostering a strong culture, and designing talent management and learning strategies.

  • Deep experience designing and executing large and small scale programs, as well as managing projects and deadlines simultaneously and seamlessly adapting to evolving business priorities.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead high performing, professional level teams including demonstrated ability to attract, assess, hire, develop, coach, reward/recognize, and retain employees; including managers and individual contributors.

  • Consultative, influential, facilitative and collaborative with an ability to engage with, establish credibility and influence internal customers including senior and executive levels.

  • Deep understanding of employment law and compliance.

  • Excellent strategy, organizational, interpersonal, leadership and customer service skills.

Preferred
